Advance City Council Meeting Notes

Delegations

-Corrine Friesen and Sioux Browning regarding the Second Annual Royal Alexandria Masquerade from the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel
-Gary Sionowski of the Home Run Society presenting a feasibility study of a baseball stadium here in Cranbrook. We will be paying special attention to this presentation as we are very concerned about committing public money to this private business. We should keep in mind that we are still paying for the Rec Plex and perhaps we can no longer afford this type of commitment of our tax dollars.
-Chris Ayling will make his quarterly presentation regarding Cranbrook Connected.  We also look forward to this as it will be very interesting to see how many people have taken part, so far, in the process.

Administration Updates
Fire and Emergency Services report that they responded to 407 emergency calls in the quarter Sept 1, 2010 to Dec 31, 2010.
At the Rec Plex ticket sales for River Dance are very strong and the staff are working on bringing 4 other shows
Staff are working with the Canadian Curling Association on ticket sales for the Canada Cup.
Efforts to fix the men's showers at the Rec Plex are ongoing and parts are on back order.

Correspondence
The City received a letter from Stewart Wilson, of Joseph Creek Streamkeepers, regarding the piling of contaminated snow near or in Joseph Creek and how this is not in accordance with the best management practices encouraged by the Ministry of  Environment. The response from the City was disappointing as they are not willing to change their practices as this, the city claims, would significantly increase taxes.   There is NO evidence that placing snow piles in other locations other than the riparian area around Joseph Creek would increase taxes. While snow removal is obviously important to the citizens of Cranbrook so is the assurance that the City is taking part in best management practices.

Public Works - staff took part in a workshop regarding a water audit. This should help provide the some of the information necessary for the City to meet their goals of an overall water reduction of 20%.

Cranbrook in Motion Committee Recommendations
- increasing bus fares by approximately .25 cents per ticket
- that the City does not encourage sandwich board signage on city streets and encourages Key City Theatre to develop a handicapped parking spot beside the Theatre.

Bylaws
Adoption of Erosion and Sediment Control Bylaw, No. 3692, 2010
