It's Your Money

Municipalities, including ours are facing growing challenges with meeting the demands of a growing city with limited funds to pay for it. Taxes are predicted to increase 8% in 2012 alone and we still face millions of dollars in repairs and upgrades to our infrastructure.
Cranbrook's Growth Management Study (GMS)cost all of us $500,000. That's $1000 per page. Kelowna, a city considerably larger than us spent much less on a very similar study. While having the GMS information is helpful for the City in making important development and infrastructure decisions it would be fair to ask why it cost so much. $500,000 of our money on a study that is over three years old and one that has not yet been commented on by the City makes one wonder about their opinion of it.

We have been slowly posting clips from the study under the tabs above.  We will continue to do so.  It would be interesting to hear from readers as to their thoughts about some of the issues raised (or not) in this study or any other of the studies undertaken by the city.  The GMS, Economic Development Study, 2010 Year End Report - all can be found on the City's website.
