For the Record

I regret having to make this post.

From Councillor Diana J Scott’s Public Facebook page:

Diana J. Scott stated on Sunday November 6th and Monday November 7th

It has come to my attention that some people are wondering whether I am part of the CLC slate running for election in Cranbrook. I am not part of this group. The confusion comes because I am one of the candidates who listed a bio on their blog.

Re-elect Diana J. Scott - Voice of Cranbrook i just wanted to set the record straight that I am not part of the slate. ALL candidates were given the opportunity to post their bios and I accepted. All the other bios are from group members themselves. I have asked to be removed from their blog to avoid any more confusion. Re-elect Diana J. Scott - Voice of Cranbrook

One of the candidates whose bio is listed on the wishes me to tell people he is absolutely not a CLC member. however, his wife writes the blog, he is very closely associated with CLC members, and when attending council meetings, huddles wi...th them during and after. although he may not be on the roster - in fact - perhaps a couple of them are not officially on the roster - i will leave it to you to make up your own mind whether they are a slate. they are all of the same mind and wish to advance the same rhetoric and spend an inordinate amount of time together. so - perhaps semantics say they are not a slate. i disagree.

  • I am afraid Ms. Scott gives us credit where credit is not due for clearly there are several candidates who are not members or even associated with Citizens for a Livable Cranbrook and they had the open mindedness to post their profiles on The Cranbrook Guardian for some of our readship to peruse. A correction is required for their benefit, by Ms Scott
  • It would not have been difficult Ms. Scott to verify information before posting comments such as those posted in the last few days and I aplogise to our readers if they have been misinformed by Ms. Scott’s facebook page.
  • I would hope residents of Cranbrook would want to elect councillors who confirm their information and know their facts by reading the material and checking their sources before they publicly spread disinformation.
  • During the many council meetings I have attended, I have sat (is that huddling?) next to many people – does that mean we are all of like mind?
  • No two people can ever think in exactly the same way about all issues and we may all believe there is a man in the moon if we did. My husband has never had input into the Cranbrook Guardian and I choose to keep it that way.
  • There is a slate, and that is the complete list of candidates who have put their names forward for the election. As for the ‘slate’ Ms. Scott speaks of, if you determine your definition of a slate to be people of same mind, then Ms. Scott is indeed mistaken. Members of Citizens for a Livable Cranbrook come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have diverse opinions on a variety of topics. That fact is what makes the society of value.
  • If a person wishes to talk about a slate using Ms Scott’s definition - four past Chamber of Commerce presidents running for election and Ms. Scott as a past Junior Chamber member I think could be far more easily construed to be a ’slate’. Are they all, of the same mind? Or perhaps City Council, who as a group, minus one, endorse and verbally present the same opinions. Are they ‘your slate’ Ms. Scott?
  • For Ms. Scott to say she is the ’voice of Cranbrook’ could be viewed as rather presumptuous for there are many voices and they all need to be heard for they all have something to contribute.
  • I am very curious to know how Ms Scott knows how much time I spend with anyone and I find this statement quite unsettling.
  • Lastly, I am so disappointed with this ongoing endeavour from some to unecessarily push wedges between groups of people who all want what is best for Cranbrook. It is non–productive, misleading, doing a diservice to yourself Ms. Scott and the local government you represent.

  1. I agree that a slate is running for council and it consists of the 14 individuals who are seeking election.

Your comment about the present and former presidents of the CofC plus Ms Scott as a former JCI president is comically amusing. Talk about slates!

Notwithstanding Ms Scott's disclaimers I am sure the good voters of Cranbrook will decide her political future based on her performance during her first term, and really don't care where she posted her bio.

We agree with much of what you said and we would be delighted to publish your comment if you will first provide examples of the disinformation and word twisting you seem to think us responsible for. We would also like examples please, of the lies you are responding to and the lies you claim Councillor Scott and Mayor Manjak responded to.
