Why?

Just one of four trees brutally vandalized adjacent to the Post office on Tenth Avenue.  WHY?

On Thursday Gerry Warner penned a great article published in the Townsman on The Trees for Life program that Communities in Bloom initiated several years ago. Since then the city has been making a concentrated effort to grow the urban forest.  Several trees have been vandalized in the past but never this many at once and never to this extent.

Just the trees alone that were destroyed are worth about three thousand dollars.  Large trees for municipal planting take several years to reach this size.  The trees were matched in species and size to form an avenue.  They may not easily be replaced.  This malicious and pointless crime personally hurts all those who volunteer and work to improve the aesthetics of our city and more importantly destroys the beauty and life giving force trees bring to all of us.

Anyone with information on the vandalism of these trees please contact Cranbrook City Hall 250-489-0209 or
Cranbrook RCMP at  250-489-3471 or
