Congratulations to Councillor Wavrecan on being first out of the gate on Wednesday July Thirteenth, showing his intention to run for the Mayor’s seat. Councillor Wavrecan has served on Council for twenty years during which time he has been known for his involvement with the Cranbrook in Motion Committee. This Committee provides advice and recommendations to Council regarding traffic and long-range transportation issues as well as accommodation of cyclists and pedestrians. Councillor Wavrecan has talked about the possibility of a rail overpass although to date there are no imminent plans for one. Councillor Wavrecan is also known for his involvement with the Sam Steele Sweetheart / Youth Ambassador Committee. He travels with the youth ambassadors to drive the float and he has given overviews at council of the parades attended and awards received at different times. Councillor Wavrecan also currently sits on the Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Committee as well as the Railway Museum Development Committee.
Before retiring Councillor Wavrecan worked for School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay) as Transportation Supervisor/Safety Officer.
