Saskatchewan Green Energy Grants

Many of us would like to become more green by producing our own power using solar or wind power. However these technologies are still quite expensive and hooking up to the grid can be challenging.  Saskatchewan has been offering its citizens a significant grant, of 35%, up to $35,000, to encourage the  use of wind, solar, heat reclaim, flare reclaim or low impact hydro projects for residential homeowners. The project must be small and generate less than 100 kilowatts of power. There is a rigorous application process and homeowners must enter into a net metering contract with SaskPower which includes the installation of a bi-directional meter which records energy usage. Ideally, energy will be going back into the Saskatchewan Energy Grid. While users cannot sell their electricity they will receive a credit on their power bills toward future usage. If governments are truly serious about becoming more energy independent then its time to provide these type of incentives to homeowners.  To read more about the Net Metering Project in Saskatchewan go here http://www.src.sk.ca/
