Cash for Clean Up in Spruce Grove

In recent months Cranbrook's Community Grants and the ability of groups to raise their own funds has come under scrutiny by Council.   It has been commented that too often groups seem to make grant applications or look for hand-outs rather than launch their own fund raising. It has also been said by many community groups that hot dog sales and bottle collection just does not produce the same result anymore, which is why they are forced to ask for hand outs.

Here is idea an worth considering from Spruce Grove.  We are fortunate in Cranbrook to have many who volunteer for Pitch In Week but Pitch in is only one week and it is impossible to cover the whole city and all of Joseph Creek so could something like this work for certain areas or for certain times or for another community project?

Non-profits have the chance to Spruce Up the city for cash.

Community groups invited to register for 2012 Community Clean Up by March 2, 2012 

Community groups are invited to register with the Community Service Partnership Program to be eligible for the 2012 Spruce Up Spruce Grove Community Clean Up

The community clean up is an innovative fundraising opportunity for local, non-profit groups that corresponds with national Pitch-In Week. In exchange for cleaning up one of 10 assigned areas of Spruce Grove, the participating non-profit groups will each receive $1,500 for local programs. Ten groups will be chosen to participate in the cleanup which takes place from April 23 - 30, 2012.

The purpose of the Community Service Partnership Program is to provide local community groups the opportunity to raise funds for their various purposes by providing a service to the city,” says City of Spruce Grove Recreation and Parks Planning Supervisor, Paul Feser.

Applicants must register with the Community Service Partnership Program to qualify for the cleanup initiative. The registration deadline is March 30 and all selected groups will be notified by April 10. For more information about Spruce Up Spruce Grove Community Clean Up applicants can contact Public Works.
