Mount Baker and the Harvest Moon

Mt. Fisher has a powerful presence in Cranbrook but Mt. Baker is closer and seems to have more pull on us.   Can't plant 'til the snow is off Baker after all.  Mt. Baker is the mountain that tells us we are almost home when driving south on Highway 3.  Many of the transmission towers that keep us in touch with the world are situated atop Mt. Baker and a hike up Baker Mountain is more doable for many than climbing Fisher Peak.

It was great to see the moon giving the more humble Mt. Baker a little nod this last month and as these clear nights are predicted to continue we will have a beautiful full harvest moon on Monday September 12th.  The light shed by a full moon around the fall equinox enabled farmers to work late bringing in the harvest - hence the name harvest moon.

Our local celebration of the harvest is The Fall Fair at Fort Steele on Sunday September 11th, the day before a full moon and with Mount Baker looking on.
