-  An article regarding Cranbrooks Wastewater Improvement Project appeared in the Summer 2011 edition of Environmental Science and Engineering Magazine.

Editorial Comment
This article written by a Peter Davey  gives no citations.  This is very surprising considering this is a science magazine. It appears information was only sourced from the some city officials.  By omitting information from the City's own report and Ministry of the Environment Documents, this article is sadly lacking in documented fact.  While it is true the concept for treating the city waste water may be good and indeed the effluent is tested for many parameters, the shocking counts of fecal coliform, E. Coli and enterococcus present in the cattle drinking water are not revealed in this article.  While it is true local veterinarians check the cattle, it is not mentioned the cattle are checked locally for communicable disease only.  The percentage of detailed tests carried out on meat destined for market is minimal and those results so far have proven difficult to come by.
The reference to the NIMBY syndrome is insulting to the residents whose wells are possibly in the spray irrigation drainage area and whose concerns and interests have not been met by this city.

-  Development Cost Charge funds available for Additional Road Works - Administration reports that the arterial road fund reserve has quite limited funds.  Administration recommends no further commitment of arterial road DCC's at this time.
-  Bike Skills Park - a presentation made by the Cranbrook Bike Skills Park Society re: building a Bike Skills Park near the Skate Park requires public consultation to consult with the surrounding neighbourhood. The consultation is scheduled to occur on Sept 15.
-  Summer Programs (PLAY program) offered through Leisure  Services had reduced attendance this year but staff are redesigning delivery of these programs to address declining enrolment and to make these camps profitable. Arts Camps were the most profitable of the summer lineup.
-  439 children registered in the 2011 Summer Reading Club offered by the Cranbrook Public Library
-  Music Festival attracted approximately 300 people at the 6th annual Idlewild Music Festival.

Editorial Comment
It appears that The Home Run Society was unsuccessful at this time in raising enough funds to make moving forward with their proposal to bring a professional franchise to Cranbrook feasible.  The Society is asking for the $125,000 amount tentatively budgeted for a stadium at Moir Park in the City's Five Year Plan to be assigned to upgrading Confederation Park.  It should be noted that Confederation Park runs along side a natural wetlands and conservation area, Elizabeth Lake Wildlife Reserve.  More noise, bright lighting and disruption in this area would not be beneficial to this important natural space.  Would it not make more sense to plan for a scaled down stadium at Moir Park where new ball facilities already exist and where it is hoped eventually more facilities might be built?

Where are your citations.... or attributions? You seem to feel free to comment and speculate on information that you have no factual evidence of, yet you are an anonymous "Editor".

You also pick and choose what you support based upon your own narrow preferences. The City of Cranbrook has room for a wide range of choices and ideas. It is this diversity that will make us a better place.

I think you should really look at yourselves in the mirror, and ask what your goal of being "guardians" truly is. It seems to me that you are intent on becoming a new age 'old boys club'. Isn't the old boys club what you didn't like in the first place?

I used to respect your goals, but you have become as power hungry as those that you choose to remove from office.

Do we need to start a Guardians of the Guardians?

  2. Perhaps "Anonymous" would like to read “City of Cranbrook Spray Irrigation Facility 2010 Annual Report”, and have a look at Table B3 (Livestock water guidelines: Fecal Coliform 200 col./100ml; E. coli 200 col./100 ml; Enterococci 50 col./100ml). Compare that to Table B8 regarding Cattle Watering and the elevated levels of Fecal Coliforms, E.Coli and Enterococci that far exceed the guidelines in three of the four locations noted. These would likely be the 'citations' used to arrive at the editor's commentary, as I drew the same conclusions when I read this document after a site visit. While there are a wide variety of articles covered in The Cranbrook Guardian, it seems that this blogspot is raising awareness of an aspect of Cranbrook's failing infrastructure that taxpayers are spending millions of dollars to fix. No longer out of sight and out of mind. Thanks to the dedicated volunteer editors, whose names appear listed on the right hand side of the blogspot for all to see - not anonymous as you indicate. In this time of global concern and awareness over food security, it is wise to know where our food comes from and how it is raised/grown.
