I spent last night driving between Kimberley and Cranbrook taking part in the Winter Air Quality Testing Program which is testing for particulate matter in the air much of which is caused by wood burning stoves. The winter air quality in this area is generally quite poor and does cause many people serious health problems. The City of Cranbrook has a rebate program to encourage people to upgrade their wood burning stoves to higher efficiency models. In Golden they have gone even further by banning all solid fuel burning appliances in all NEW construction. I am curious to know what you think about this policy and would it be something we should consider here in Cranbrook. How important is clean air to us? Should we ban new homes from having wood burning appliances?
