We totally concur with the buy locally philosophy and as a small follow-up to the recent letters in the Townsman we add this.
It may not always be posssible to buy locally but we can try our best and also to buy as Canadian as we can. Check the labels on food, read the signs beside produce and ask your supermarket managers for the information if it is not clearly visible. Request that the store bring in Canadian garlic if there is none on the shelf for example - it is up to us, the consumers, to support our own farmers and our own food supply. Garlic is a great example of a crop which does very well in BC. Locally Clear Sky Farm grows it and sold it this summer at the Farmers Market. Creston has several growers and yet most of the garlic on our supermarket shelves comes from China. For major food distributors it is about the money but for us it is about our health, our community and our employment. Your actions speak for you.
