It was encouraging to see a few members of council examining the Home Run Society's $4.2 million proposal from other angles and asking a few questions. There are a lot more questions to be asked, including why taxpayers living in a relatively small community, should even be asked to partly subsidise a professional organisation more accustomed to working with large cities. How can we forget that The Rec Plex, although a great asset to our community, runs at a great loss ($3million per annum)? At a time when individual taxpayers are being encouraged not to take on more debt, the thought of the city's involvement with another sports league when there are many more pressing necessities makes this writer shake her head. The Cranbrook's five year financial plan contains line items which would support this proposal. Why?
This video is fairly long (22minutes) but if you are interested in civil debate and think it is worth applying to where our tax dollars are spent, it is worth a watch. Flutes and golf.....see how the questions work.
