Somethings Growing at the Salvation Army

Something  wonderful is happening at the Salvation Army.  In a vacant lot beside the Salvation Army building gardens are growing.  The garden was instigated by a client of the Salvation Army who expressed an interest in being able to garden.  A garden committee was formed and letters were sent out to the local business community  asking for donations.  The business community responded with wood, tools, hoses, soil and more.  Growing food is secondary, more importantly the garden is a bridge allowing marginalized people to connect and it provides a real sense of community.  I spoke to one of the gardeners the other day and she was very knowledgable and loved coming to take care of her garden which was growing sunflowers, corn, beans and carrots. There are presently 12 gardens but next year they hope to have more.  If you would like to make a donation to the Salvation Army please drop them off at .533 Slater Road  or call 250-426-3612
